Joint Statement from Farm Organisations calling for Stronger Government Action on Storm Éowyn Recovery

18th March 2025

The Aftermath of Storm Éowyn: The Struggle for Farmers and Growers Continues

At Talamh Beo, we are committed to raising awareness about the ongoing struggles faced by growers impacted by Storm Éowyn. While the Irish government has taken some action, it falls far short of what is truly needed.

The Need for Fair Compensation

The government’s response was to reopen the 2025 Scheme of Investment Aid for the Commercial Horticulture Sector. However, many growers were excluded from assistance due to restrictive conditions. As a result, growers who have experienced crop damage, income loss, and infrastructure destruction are still without the support they desperately need.

Alongside our allied organisations—Organic Growers of Ireland (OGI), Farming for Nature, Seedsavers, and Leitrim Organic Co-op—we’ve issued a joint statement calling for immediate, fair compensation to help these growers recover. Read the joint statement here:

Why It Matters

Local food systems are vital to our communities. They not only provide us with fresh, nutritious food but also help sustain our environment. If we don’t act now, we risk losing the growers who make all of this possible.
