UWAC & Support for Palestine October Update

Talamh Beo continues with its support for Palestinian farmers in general and UAWC  – the Union of Agriculture Work Committees – in particular, following our MOU signing earlier this year. You can read all about this and the activities so far here.

Autumn sees the annual Olive Harvest in Palestine, which is a vital part of the economy and of cultural life in Palestine. However this year the harvest has been violently harassed and attacked by settlers, aided and abetted by Israeli forces. Around 10,000 olive trees have been destroyed by settlers already this harvest.

32 UAWC international volunteers were also arrested and deported in October. Nevertheless farmers continue as do the internationals who provide protective presence. Without them, the attacks would be far worse.

You can read one volunteer’s recounting of his time on the 2025 olive harvest with UAWC here.

Below you can see a range of events held in September and October featuring or supporting UAWC.

A noteworthy highlight is the Hunger for Justice evening in Nenagh. Two batches of E20,000 were donated to UAWC by this amazing campaign ,which saw a rolling fast run for 400+ days. This involved one person fasting for one day, with a dedication to one person killed in Gaza by the Israeli Occupation Forces. The idea of the campaign was to highlight the appalling use of imposed starvation as a weapon of war, with fundraising as an aside. However the fundraising was also immense, which resulted in UAWC receiving E40,000 for its Stop Gaza Starvation campaign. As noted below, other events have also raised funds for UAWC.
