The purpose of the trip was to meet with ECVC colleagues, meeting our Methane Matters Consortium partners and for Thomas to give a presentation of our findings from our part in the Methane Matters project.
Methane Matters More Than Ever!
This was the title of the 2nd Annual Conference of the Methane Matters Coalition in Brussels in October. Thomas and Milo were representing Talamh Beo at the conference as part of a three day trip. On the first day, they met with ECVC to discuss the organisation of the ECVC biannual General Assembly in Ireland in November 2026. As the only Irish ECVC partner, Talamh Beo has the honour to host this important European event. As part of this meeting they also had discussions with ECVC around the impact of trade deals, the CAP, nitrate derogation and agroecology education. This trip enabled the strengthening of relationships and enabled closer ties with our European partners.
On the second day they met with the 18 partners of the Methane Matters Consortium to discuss the project’s progress. Following this, they met with Andrzej Nowakowski, Policy Advisor on Agriculture and Rural Development for the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament and Luke Ming Flanaghan, Independent MEP for the Midlands North West Constituency where they learned the stark realities of how the European political polarity is leaving food, people and agriculture behind.
On the final day, Thomas gave a presentation on the findings and recommendations from the Methane Reduction through Food Systems Transformation project. There was great interest in the whole systems approach to methane reduction and that the findings arose from our grassroots group of Talamh Beo member farmers.
