Methane reduction through Food Systems Transformation
About the Project
Talamh Beo is part of the European Methane Matters Project, an international initiative working with seventeen partners across Europe to address methane emissions from agriculture, waste and energy.
Five of the partners are focussed on agriculture and Talamh Beo is the only farmer-led organisation in the project that is focusing on methane reduction in agriculture through food systems transformation.
The project began in January and is currently in the initial phase, bringing together a group of agroecologically focused farmers to map and explore the methane issue from a food systems transformation perspective.
The second phase begins in May 2025 and continues to the end of the year, with a series of wider community gatherings, farm walks and online events to share the findings that will inform policy recommendations at the local, national and European level.
The project ends in November with a launch event and the publication and dissemination of our final policy recommendations.
Our project will not only highlight innovative ways to reduce methane emissions but also highlight the connection between the mainstream industrial food system and wider environmental and social decline.
