Led by Feasta, Talamh Beo, and Cultivate, and funded by IEN, this two-year action research and advocacy project is exploring how policies like a Basic Income for Local Food Producers could strengthen Ireland’s food systems.
Right now we’re:
Building a database of local food producers to create a clear picture of the sector in Ireland.
Holding one-to-one phone interviews to hear producers’ stories and experiences.
Hosting online group conversations to share insights, challenges, and priorities collectively.
We are also co-hosting a series of events and webinars on themes around how we better support farmers and nourish communities through stronger local food economies in Ireland. Our in-person event at Trinity (October 2025) was a great success, bringing together farmers, researchers, activists and movement builders and will be built on with events at Feeding Ourselves in Cloughjordan late March and another larger public event October 2026.
This project aims to develop and promote policies that support local food producers and enhance the viability of local food systems in Ireland, reinforcing their role in the transition to a Sustainable Economy.
