SUMMARY:Feeding Ourselves Local Food Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 29th October 2026 | Trinity College Dublin \nFollowing on from our work on the Strengthening Local Food Economies project this will be an event to present research findings and take the next steps needed to a recognised & resourced Local Food Producer base in Ireland! \n______________ \nIn October\, Feasta\, Talamh Beo and Cultivate\, in collaboration with Trinity Sustainability\, will host the Feeding Ourselves Local Food Symposium\, marking the culmination of the two-year Strengthening Local Food Economies in Ireland research and advocacy project. \nWith support from the IEN\, the project has explored how Ireland can better recognise and support local food producers\, strengthen local food economies\, build stronger connections across the food system\, and develop practical policy proposals that enable farmers\, communities and local food initiatives to thrive. \nThe symposium will launch the project’s key recommendations\, including proposals to improve the income stability and viability of local food producers\, present a concrete proposal for a Basic Income for Local Food Producers\, and highlight wider economic measures that can strengthen resilient local food economies. \nThe afternoon will feature powerful contributions from Irish farmers\, local food practitioners\, researchers and policy leaders\, alongside engaging discussions and opportunities to connect with others working to transform Ireland’s food system from the ground up. Dr. Rupa Marya\, food activist\, author and physician\, author Chris Smaje\, and Jo Poulton who leads the UK campaign for a Basic Income for Farmers (BI4Farmers) will contribute. \nAs capacity is limited\, attendance is by invitation only. If you or your organisation would like to express an interest in attending\, please email alison.brogan@feasta.org. We cannot guarantee a spot for all who are interested\, but will do our best to include you.
